Emmy Awards: Why Everyone Was Wearing Red

Television’s feted celebrities painted the town red when they showed up at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards in glamorous gowns that boasted the same cherry shade. From Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany to Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon, these celebrities stood out from the red carpet as much as they blended in with it.

But it was no mere coincidence (nor was there a clandestine memo) that everyone decidedly showed up in scarlet at the gala. And here’s why:

According to Pantone’s Fall 2016 Colour report, Aurora Red is a welcome, trending hue this season that adds punch to a steady stream of muted Fall colours, exuding unspeakable confidence.

It is no wonder then, that the few of them shining in scarlet brought home sculptures of gold to complement their sizzling gowns. While Tatiana Maslany walked home with an Outstanding Lead Actress award in her Alexander Wang cut out frock, Kate McKinnon and Regina King were both elected Outstanding Supporting Actresses in their respective categories.

But surely, the red-hot hits aren’t the only ones slaying the red carpet. Below, we’ve nominated a few of our favourites looks from the Emmy Awards’ red carpet that we believe are deserving of a golden statuette in their own rights. Vote for your favourite!

Shameless’s Emmy Rossum in Wes Gordon

American Horror Story's Sarah Paulson in Prada

House of Lies' Kristen Bell in Zuhair Murad

Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke in Atelier Versace

Empire's Taraji P. Henson in Vera Wang
