It feels like just yesterday when we gathered with our friends to watch stunning fireworks and welcome 2016. Like every other year, we’ve finally come to the last few hours before we greet a new date that carries new resolutions, dreams and hopes to look forward to. But before we bid adieu, let’s take a look back at 2016’s most memorable moments in fashion.
Slip in Chic
Each season, the industry goes through a revamp, revealing a lineup of vogue trends that keeps fashion enthusiasts on their toes. Although these trends are ephemeral, we saw a distinct style that followed through 2016: the silky slip dress. Making a comeback from the 90s this year, names like Chanel, Dries Van Noten and Loewe gave the slip dress a modern twist, pairing it smartly with chic separates for an impeccable result.
Just like any successful commerce, each brand continues to strive in keeping its name fresh and relevant. Re-emerging as fashion’s finest, Gucci and Mulberry both received an update in their classic logos. While Mulberry dropped its iconic tree motif for a modern appeal, Creative Designer Alessandro Michele gave new life to Gucci’s ‘neglected’ logo, reinstating a stylish version of the double G identity on handbags, belts and more.
Best Red Carpet Looks
No year is complete without the awards season. Our vote for the best red carpet look of 2016 goes to Claire Danes who decked out in a glow-in-the-dark Zac Posen gown at the Met Gala. Befitting the theme of “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”, the unmistakable dress was hand-sewn and crafted from organza and fiber optics, allowing the dress to light up in the dark.
