4 Spring Festivals To Know

For the concrete jungle explorer, immersing yourself in a festival is a great way to appreciate the local culture and arts scene. Besides, each festival also provides you with a unique, full-sensory experience. This, in turn, provides you with a picture memento and a great story to share back home!

Spring festivals tend to be more colourful and vivid as they celebrate life and transformations. If you are planning to jet off somewhere this April, why not take into account these gaieties that are happening around the world?

1) Hanami, Japan

When: Early April to Late May

Where: All over Japan

What: The Bloom Of Cherry Blossoms

While enjoying the transient beauty of flowers remains the main customary attraction, modern-day festivals are also intertwined with a smorgasbord of traditional Japanese performing arts and specialty food fairs.

Normally, Japan’s first cherry blossoms appear in Okinawa (southern Japan) around the beginning of April, before moving northwards to Hokkaido by early May. So, keep your eyes peeled for this year’s cherry blossom forecast to keep yourself informed!

2) Songkran, Thailand

When: 13th – 15th April 2017

Where: All over Thailand

What: Celebration of Thai’s new year

April sees the entire country go bananas in friendly water fights and street parties. The annual water fight is the Thais’ way of washing away bad luck and inviting good luck into the new year. Participants partake in water splashing and merrymaking for at least three days. Whether you choose to visit Bangkok or Chiang Mai, staying dry on their streets is hardly an option.

3) Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, USA

When: 14th April to 23rd April 2017

Where: Indio, California

What: Live music and creative arts festivals

As the first major music event on the annual festival calendar, expect curious eyes—or should we say curious ears—to turn towards the Californian desert. With an ensemble cast that spans across various music genres, this is an eargasmic event not to be missed by music lovers. Musical acts this year include Bon Iver, The xx, DJ Khaled, Radiohead and Lady Gaga. The glossy event is also a prominent fashion hotspot, where hipsters can be seen decked in designer-hippie getups.

4) Urbanscape, Malaysia

When: 23rd April to 8th May 2017

Where: Kuala Lumpur

What: Live music and creative arts festivals

Spanning across three weekends, Urbanscapes 2017 is a massive food, fashion, and art fiesta. You will get to enjoy a wide range of delicacies from some of the city’s most prominent cafés and bakeries.

There are also numerous workshops such as terrarium building, tote bag painting, calligraphy, and food styling for you to get hands on. Musical acts this year include Perth’s psychedelic rock band Tame Impala, French electronic act M83 and Malaysia’s very own rock act Hujan.
