How to channel the best of NYFW’s street styles into your workwear

Fashion Week is not merely about the upcoming trends for next season. And it’s definitely more than just the who’s who spotted on the front rows. Safe to say, the spotlight goes to the fashion happening outside of the shows too.

Get inspired with some of our favourite looks from the streets of New York for a quick workwear update.

Pantsuits
Technically, pantsuits have been around since 1960 and remain as a work-wear favourite until today. Give it a modern twist like how Margaret Zhang does. Choose a fitted cut to compliment your silhouette and cinch the waist with a wide belt that will instantly add a stylish flair.

Co-ord Sets
There has been an unofficial rule that wearing matching tops and bottoms is a fashion faux pas, but looks like this myth is busted! Matching sets have taken the world by storm and there’s no reason not to love it.
Keep it office-friendly with minimal prints such as lines or geometrical designs. If you’re not keen on prints, play with textures instead.

Almost that time again….. #NYFW ✌🏼️😁

Cool Layering
Olivia Palermo attended the Misha Nonoo show in an easy yet chic combo that will never go wrong. Layer a structured knitted top over a shirtdress and you’re good to go!

Culottes
Forget tapered pants, here’s a pair that is comfortable and takes your style game up a notch. Shorter culottes might come off casual, so opt for structured ones with hems that end just above your ankles. Pair it with pointy toe-heels to create an illusion of longer legs.

Colour-block
Don’t limit yourself to wearing dull colours to the office. There’s nothing wrong with sporting a vibrant palette! The trick is to stick to a maximum of three colours (one dark colour helps balance out your look). Not too sure if you can pull it off? That’s fine, you can opt to colour-block a plain outfit with bright accessories instead.

Time to take charge with these game-changing styles. Who says formal-wear should be boring?
