Mixing High & Low Fashion Like Celebrities

Dressing head-to-toe in luxury is—for the lack of a better word—a luxury. Not all of us can justify the hefty price tag attached to most designer pieces when we also have to pay our own bills.

Enter low (or fast) fashion.

Like cheap and addictive flavour enhancer that can be found in your common packet of instant noodles, it spices up your overall ensemble without burning a hole in your pocket. And, more of us are stirring it into our sartorial mix to ensure that we concoct the perfect getup, every day.

Don’t believe us? Hear it from the expert, Rachel Zoe, one of Hollywood’s most popular celebrity stylist, who told Glamour the following:

Listen, some of the people I know with the smallest spending accounts have the biggest style. The key is creativity in mixing and matching what you wear. Even the girls with Balenciaga bags or Lanvin flats pair them with H&M, Anthropologie, and Topshop. At this point fashion is so accessible, it’s easy to be on trend for very little money.

For good measure, here are some rules of thumb to keep in mind:

1. Polish It Up

To elevate your overall look, either ensure your higher-end purchase is infinitely polished or that your lower-end purchase doesn’t look too cheap. That means getting acquainted with the quality of the fabrics, prints and trims before you actually purchase them (avoid high dependency on online shopping for lower-end brands).

2. One Bag To Rule Them All

One high-end bag, endless permutations. A classic one is versatile and will aggrandise just about any outfit that you can dream up from your wardrobe.

3. Amp Up The Attitude

Iron your clothes. And, once in awhile, roll that hem up however you like. When it comes to fashion, attitude is everything. If you can wear it with confidence, then low-end fashion can turn from zero to hero, to blend in seamlessly with the designer piece that you’re wearing.
